Delight, Commit, Trust
The Sapphire Review Vol. 1 | No. 15 • August 30, 2024
Delight thyself also in the LORD; And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; Trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
This week’s writing picks up at the focal point of another chiasmus (defined in the last post).
Oh what great depths of joy, peace, and confidence are to be found in the thoughtful care that a loving Father bestows upon His children.
DELIGHT
The person who finds the desires of their heart given unto them from their heavenly Father, is a person who has learned to delight themselves in Him. How can such a delight be found? It can only come through nearness to the Most High.
The psalmist declares that there is none upon earth that he desires beside God, and that it is good for him to draw near to Him the he may declare all His works. Such declarations will spring forth from the heart that is full of delight.1
COMMIT
Hand in hand with delighting in the LORD is the committing of one’s way unto Him. In order for a way to be committed, there must be surrender. There must be a letting go of our will and our plans in order to bring them into alignment with God’s. Such a surrender will no doubt put one on a course of drawing near to God. As we draw nigh to Him, He will draw nigh to us.2
This is more than a mere dedication of our ways unto God. This is a placing of our entire lives, as living sacrifices, into the loving care of divine providence.3 Committing our way unto Him is as putting our hand to the plow without looking back, for no one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.4
TRUST
For trust to be manifested, a circumstance must present itself that has, as one of its essential requirements, the need for an exercise of trust. Once a commitment has been made, we will often find that such a circumstance lies just around the corner.
How can a commitment be truly seen as such unless there is also the presence of trust? How can trust be truly seen as such unless there is a circumstance that presses against us and our earthly comforts?
Without trust, commitment is left incomplete. A lack of trust will hinder one from finding the delight in God that comes through seeing His mighty hand prevail through impossible situations.
SUMMARY
The desires of one’s heart being given, finds its ultimate fulfilment in the lives of those whose hearts are fully consecrated. Their desire is to have the mind of Christ.5 They are content in whatever circumstances they find themselves.6 Throughout the course of their lives they lift up their voices saying, “here I am, use me.”7 They have confidence in their prayers being answered, because they seek to have their prayers brought into full alignment with the will of God.8
So, if we want to have the desires of our heart given unto us. We must have a heart that is in alignment with the word of God and with His will for our lives. Such desires and such prayers coming from those desires will be answered.
It is good for us to judge ourselves on this matter with regards to our characters, our relationships, our plans, our ambitions, our possessions, our finances, our occupations, our living conditions, our homesteads, and any other thing which could be constituted as a “way” to be committed unto God.
Are our thoughts, cares, and concerns set on things above or are they focused on earthly matters and gains?9
Are we looking and concentrating our efforts and plans on the things of eternal value (which are unseen) or are they focused upon worldly pursuits, plans, and pleasures?10
Do we love the world and the things of the world, or are we filled rather with the love of God our Father?11
Do we have the mind of Christ?12 Are we putting ourselves under His yoke of teaching and character building?13 Or can it be said of us that we are yet still carnal?14
Do the things that are pleasing to God occupy the energies of our minds?15
Do we live for His glory rather than our own?16
Have we positioned ourselves to be useful vessels unto the Master by purging iniquity from our lives? Or do we dismiss and make excuses for things in our lives that are dishonorable and displeasing to God?17
PRAYER
May God help us to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to Him, and to bring every aspect of our lives into full surrender to Him and our beloved Savior, Jesus Christ. May He teach us to commit every way to Him and help us to grow in our faith, that we may trust Him in every circumstance and trial. May He lead us down the roads that will draw us nearer unto Him, that we may delight in Him and declare all His works.
God Bless,
Charles
Learning about the chiasmus structure of much of the scriptures is incredibly eye opening. I hope to see more of this brother. I love how much more the verses open up to me. That you've better explained it and keep giving these examples, I'm sure to keep learning about my GOD and my King and a more personal level and in a more perfect way. Thank you, brother Charles.
