And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
As an epilogue and closing to the four-part “The Ark of His Testament” series, we will look at the last days remnant, spoken of in the book of Revelation.
At the heart of the covenants that God has made with people over the centuries was His desire to be “their God” and for them to be “his people.”1
God also uses language to describe His people as being “peculiar.”2 Peculiar is a word associated with something that is rare and unique. There is nothing peculiar about being in a majority.
The word remnant also pertains to a minority group and not that of a majority. This is a concept that Jesus spoke of in saying that “many” would walk down the broad way to destruction, but only a “few” would travel the narrow way to eternal life.3 In the verse following these passages, He warns us against false prophets.* This warning is of great importance, for it is by following the false teachings of the doctrines of Babylon that many people will one day be shocked to discover that they have been walking along the broad way all this time. In the last days, God is sending a message throughout the earth, calling his people to come out of the corrupted religious systems that are upholding the doctrines of Babylon.4
WHO ARE THEY
Our verse this week provides us with a couple of traits regarding the remnant of God’s people who will be living in the last days.
• They keep the commandments of God
• The have the testimony of Jesus Christ
The commandments of God
In the “The Ark of His Testament” series we covered the “commands of God” being built upon the law of the ten commandments, which are also located in a physical ark in heaven. To help us identify this remnant, we must look for a people that delight in God’s law.5 We must look for a people that are keeping God’s commandments, all ten of them, exactly as He prescribed them.6 As a remnant, we will see a minority group of people keeping them in a way that differs from the majority.
The testimony of Jesus Christ
We need not to be in confusion regarding what this means, for the Bible plainly tells us. Rev 19:10 defines the “testimony of Jesus” as being the “spirit of prophecy.” As a remnant of people, we will see a minority group having a proper understanding of Biblical prophecy, while the majority will subscribe to a variety of errors.
PROPHECY
Starting with prophecy, just to name a single but substantial point, the majority of Christendom has followed after an error regarding the 70-week prophecy found in Daniel 9:24-27. An error that has its roots in the “Scofield Reference Bible” of the early 1900s. Satan has deceived most of Christianity into believing that the final and 70th week of this prophecy is separated from the other 69 weeks by thousands of years.
The entire 70 week prophecy is about Christ and was completely fulfilled in the first century. The twisting of this truth has taken the final week (involving Jesus’ death on the cross and the end of the sacrificial system) to now be associated with “the anti-christ” and a man that is supposed to rise in the future. What a masterful work of manipulation this has been, to take that which points to and was fulfilled by Jesus Christ and to make it about a figure that hates Him.
Additional studies will be needed to explain the details of this prophecy (and others) further. However, it is one of the most significant (if not the most significant) errors in prophetic understanding that we face today. Many false teachings and hopes have been formed because of the twisting and splitting up of Daniel’s 70 weeks.
The remnant minority will believe in true prophetic interpretations, while the majority will follow cunningly devised fables.7
TEN COMMANDMENTS
Next, we will look at the Ten Commandments (commandments of God). The last days remnant will consist of a group of people who keep all ten of these commandments, while the majority will keep only part of them or another variation of them.
Satan has attacked two commandments in particular:
• The nature and identity of God (first commandment, Exodus 20:3)
• The seal of God (Sabbath, fourth commandment, Exodus 20:8-11)
Satan has patiently worked over centuries of persecution, deceit, and traditions of men to bring the errors regarding these two commandments to where they are today. There are many people all around the world, who love and revere God that have no idea they are breaking God’s law. They are blind to the fact that traditions of men are being lifted up over the commands of God.8 At the same time, however, God is raising up people just like He did during the reformation period. He is shining a light on His truths and sounding an alarm for His people, who are currently sitting in ignorance, to “come out of her [Babylon and her false system of doctrines].”9
SABBATH
The Sabbath has been attacked in a couple of ways.
Some have subscribed to the error that the ten commandments were also part of the “handwritten ordinances” which were “nailed to the cross.”* This belief ignores the distinct covenants and laws that God made with the Israelites, and the record of the ark which contains a set of God’s ten commandments in heaven.10
Others have been convinced that, although the Sabbath still applies, the day in which we observe the Sabbath has either been moved to Sunday or can be any day of the week that a person chooses to best fit their lifestyle and circumstances. This belief stands in direct opposition to the clear instructions that God wrote upon the tables of stone with His own finger, designating the seventh day (Saturday) as the day in which the Sabbath should be observed.
Regarding this point, we must ask ourselves a few questions:
• Question: On what day of the week do we find the majority of Christians worshipping? Answer: Sunday
• Question: On what day of the week do we find a minority group of Christian worshipping? Answer: Saturday
• Question: What have the traditions of men taught us to be the proper day of worship? Answer: Sunday
• Question: What does the Bible define as the proper day of worship? Answer: Saturday
• Question: Which is being held higher by most Christians today - traditions of men or the commands of God? Answer: Traditions of men.11
Satan casts much confusion and doubt into the minds of people now, once again saying as he did with Eve: “hath God said?”12
NATURE AND IDENTITY OF GOD
The nature and identity of God has been attacked by targeting the actual father and son relationship that exists between Jesus and His Father and by reducing it down to a metaphorical relationship of roles: the role of a father and the role of a son.
Satan has carried out this attack through the formation of the trinity doctrine. For a more detailed look about what the Bible actually says about Jesus and His Father, see our study called “The Fatherhood of God & the Sonship of Christ.”
Again, as we take another look at Christianity as a whole, we see the majority upholding the trinity god as their god. By upholding this doctrine, without even realizing, many people are thus breaking the first commandment. The minority remnant believe in a literal father and son relationship. They believe that the “only true God”13 gave His literal “only begotten Son” to die for the sins of the world.14
PRAYER
May God help us to be true to His commandments, all ten of them, so that we may be amongst those that have the right to the tree of life.15 May He build within us, boldness, strength, and character that will be able to endure through the coming trials.16 God help us in sharing this truth with others.
God Bless,
Charles
